Instagram inspiration, round 1

Instagram is still my favorite social media platform.

Even as it continues to change and evolve, Instagram still connects me to the creative output of hundreds of other creative people around the planet. It provides a place where I can find, ahem, instant inspiration from all sorts of different people and perspectives. Finding new people to follow is part of the fun, and there’s a lot of ways to discover new photographers.

While I was preparing for my trip to California earlier this year, I visited my local book store to find some new reading materials for my flights, and left with “The Instagram Book”. This is a great collection, sampling the work of many different photographers you can find on Instagram. Most spreads include a statement by the artist, their name and IG account, and one of the best shots from their photostream. I liked this approach. The artist statements helped provide interesting insight and context into each person’s photographs, more than what you can find on the typical IG profile. And since the book usually only included one photo from each photographer, this helped peak my curiosity, and spurred me into checking out more of their work.

I’ve included a few of the great photographers that I discovered through this book, and one of my favorite shots from their recent work. I hope this helps you find some fresh inspiration.
